How to Verify DIODES Part Numbers and Ordering Suffixes

2026/10/27 11:12:52 CST Views
Check DIODES ordering codes, package and packing suffixes, and label discrepancies before purchase, with practical 74AUP examples.

To verify a DIODES part number, match the complete ordering code to the ordering-information section of the applicable manufacturer datasheet. Then reconcile that code with the supplier quotation, the relevant label fields, and the purchase order. A matching device family alone does not establish that the offered package, logic function, or packing option meets the requirement.

This guide uses DIODES 74AUP logic devices to show how the process works. The code explanations apply to the specific documents cited below. For an unfamiliar suffix, retain the original code and obtain evidence that identifies its meaning and relationship to the requested item before approving the purchase.

1. Establish the Exact Manufacturer Ordering Code

Keep the customer's part number exactly as received. Record the manufacturer separately, and distinguish the requested manufacturer part number from the customer's internal material number or a distributor stock reference. If the BOM contains only a family name, ask engineering to identify the approved package and ordering option before treating it as a complete purchasing specification.

Open the applicable DIODES datasheet and find both the code breakdown and the row listing the complete orderable device. Save the document number, revision, page, and review date. A code diagram explains the structure; the actual ordering row provides evidence that the specific combination is documented.

For production procurement, also check the manufacturer's current product information and relevant DIODES product change notices. Match any notice to its affected part-number list rather than assuming that every member of a family is covered. An old PDF remains useful evidence of its contents, but its publication date does not confirm present availability or lifecycle status.

2. Worked Example: Reading a Complete 74AUP Ordering Code

Consider 74AUP2G125RA3-7. Its manufacturer ordering-information section separates the logic device, function, package, and packing fields. The following breakdown follows that specific document. [1]

Ordering-code breakdown for the linked dual-buffer example
Code elementDocumented meaningPurchasing check
74Logic prefixRetain the complete device identification.
AUPLogic familyDo not substitute a different logic family without engineering review.
2GDual gateConfirm the required number of channels.
125Three-state buffer; output enable is active LOWCheck the truth table and enable polarity.
RA3X2-DFN1210-8 packageMatch the package drawing and approved PCB footprint.
-77-inch tape and reelConfirm the actual delivery format and quantity.

Use this method for the next device by opening its own ordering table. Avoid treating one example as a universal decoder for every DIODES product family, especially when reviewing analog, discrete, or acquired product lines.

3. Check Package Codes Against Specific Devices

A package abbreviation becomes useful purchasing information when it is tied to an exact ordering code and manufacturer package designation. The examples below link directly to the corresponding CST product pages; the package and reel information comes from the cited DIODES datasheets.

Documented ordering examples; quantities are manufacturer packing specifications, not CST stock levels
Complete part number / CST product pageDevice descriptionPackage code and designationDocumented packing
74AUP2G125RA3-7Dual three-state bufferRA3: X2-DFN1210-87-inch reel; 5,000 devices [1]
74AUP1G126FZ4-7Single three-state buffer; enable active HIGHFZ4: X2-DFN1410-67-inch reel; 5,000 devices [2]
74AUP2G14FZ4-7Dual Schmitt-trigger inverterFZ4: X2-DFN1410-67-inch reel; 5,000 devices [3]
74AUP1G14FW4-7Single Schmitt-trigger inverterFW4: X2-DFN1010-67-inch reel; 5,000 devices [4]
74AUP2G04FW3-7Dual inverterFW3: X2-DFN0910-67-inch reel; 5,000 devices [5]

Sharing the FZ4 package designation does not make the single buffer and dual inverter functionally interchangeable. Conversely, a similar function does not establish footprint compatibility. Engineering still needs to review the pin assignment, package drawing, land pattern, and electrical requirements before approving a different device.

The reviewed dual-inverter PDF is marked “Preliminary Datasheet.” Its ordering information is identified here as a documented example; confirm applicable current information before using it for a new production approval. [5]

4. Separate the Packing Suffix from the Supplied Packing Condition

For the five rows above, -7 denotes 7-inch tape and reel. The listed reel quantity is 5,000 devices for each exact ordering option. Those facts should not be extended into a claim that every DIODES -7 item contains 5,000 devices.

A manufacturer's original packing specification also does not tell you whether a particular supplier is offering a full reel, a partial reel, or cut tape. Ask for the offered quantity per reel or strip, number of packing units, and original-label availability. Record the agreed delivery format separately from the manufacturer part number.

For example, an RFQ for 800 pieces of 74AUP1G126FZ4-7 should explicitly state whether cut tape is acceptable or an original full reel is required. This is an illustrative purchasing requirement, not a statement of current CST stock or packing services.

5. Resolve External and Internal Part-Number Differences on Labels

The DIODES Product Label Specification, AP02006 Rev. 32, distinguishes an external part-number field from a House Number used for internal manufacturing or inventory identification. Its QR-code definitions identify 2P as the external PN, P as the House Number, and optional 1P as a factory item number. These fields can contain different strings. [6]

Consequently, a longer number in a scan should be interpreted through its field identifier and the applicable label specification. Comparing every scanned string directly with the BOM can create an apparent mismatch without explaining what either field represents.

Request a clear photograph of the complete label and, where available, the unedited decoded data. Record the field name beside each number. When a relationship remains unclear, obtain manufacturer documentation or written clarification tied to the actual item. This distinction does not establish the meaning of an arbitrary extra suffix.

Retain the image and explanation with the transaction. A label's consistency is one part of a receiving review; it does not by itself establish authenticity or a complete supply history.

6. What to Do with an Unexplained Additional Suffix

If an offer includes an additional suffix such as -55, preserve the offered string exactly. The five device ordering tables reviewed for this guide do not establish its meaning for an offered lot. Its absence from those tables is a reason to investigate; it is not proof of a counterfeit item, a packaging-only difference, or a different electrical specification.

  1. Identify where the code appears. Is it printed in the external PN field, an internal-number field, or only in the supplier's stock list?

  2. Request the mapping evidence. Ask for the applicable manufacturer explanation, original document, or written clarification connecting the offered code to the requested ordering code.

  3. Check the scope. Confirm that the explanation covers the specific device and code. An explanation for another family or another suffix is insufficient.

  4. Keep the issue visible. Record any unresolved relationship in the quotation review and obtain the appropriate purchasing or engineering disposition before release.

Do not delete characters simply to make a supplier code match the BOM. If the supplier uses an internal reference, keep both references in separate fields and attach the accepted mapping.

7. Reconcile the BOM, Quotation, Label, and Purchase Order

Use a comparison record before releasing the order. The following is a suggested procurement workflow, not a manufacturer-mandated acceptance standard.

Suggested part-number reconciliation record
RecordWhat to captureQuestion before approval
Customer BOM / approved listManufacturer, exact requested code, approved alternativesIs the package and ordering option fully specified?
Supplier quotationOffered manufacturer code, separate stock reference, packing and exceptionsDoes the offer match, or is there a documented deviation?
Label evidenceVisible external and internal fields, photograph, associated lot and quantityHas each compared number been identified correctly?
Manufacturer evidenceOrdering row, document revision, relevant clarification or change noticeDoes the evidence cover this exact combination?
Purchase orderAgreed code, packing, permitted deviations and evidence requirementsWill the supplier acknowledge the same requirement?

Where discrepancies remain, assign an owner and a disposition: confirmed match, approved deviation, or unresolved hold. Keep the supporting evidence with that decision so receiving staff can understand what was approved.

A Worked Reconciliation Scenario

Illustrative scenario: the BOM specifies 74AUP2G14FZ4-7, while the supplier spreadsheet shows an extra suffix and describes the goods as “same part.” The buyer requests the full reel-label image instead of editing the spreadsheet entry.

If the image and applicable manufacturer evidence establish that the longer string is an internal reference and identify the requested external ordering code, record that mapping for review. If the label or explanation does not establish the relationship, keep the identity question open. An unsupported “same part” comment should not become the purchasing record's only justification.

8. Avoid Errors When Copying Codes into Purchasing Systems

Keep a source-text column alongside any search-normalized version. Removing spaces for a website search may be convenient, but the normalized string should not overwrite the original supplier or customer entry.

Check visually similar characters such as zero and the letter O, the digit one and the letter I, and hyphens introduced by document conversion. When an image is unclear, request a better image rather than silently correcting the code. A search result for a nearby number is a lead to investigate, not evidence that the original number was a typo.

Likewise, a short top-side device marking should be checked against the applicable manufacturer marking information. It should not automatically replace the complete ordering code in the BOM or purchase order.

9. Include the Right Information in a DIODES RFQ

A useful inquiry makes the requested identity clear and gives the supplier room to disclose a discrepancy before quoting. Include:

  • The manufacturer and complete requested ordering code, copied without abbreviation.

  • Required quantity, delivery schedule, and destination.

  • Full-reel, partial-reel, or cut-tape requirements and any restrictions on split quantities.

  • Acceptable date-code range and any single-lot requirement.

  • Required label photographs, documents, and receiving-acceptance conditions.

  • Whether alternative ordering options may be proposed, subject to separate approval.

Ask the supplier to quote the offered manufacturer code explicitly and list any additional reference separately. Availability, quantity, packing condition, price, and dispatch timing should be confirmed for the actual offer.

Browse the CST DIODES product range or send your complete requirement to ziven.wu@cstcomponents.com. If a suffix or label field needs clarification, include the original code and photographs with your inquiry. You can also use the CST contact page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does -7 always mean 5,000 pieces per reel?

No. In the five documented examples above, it identifies 7-inch tape and reel, and their individual ordering rows list 5,000 devices. Confirm reel quantity for the exact device instead of deriving it from the suffix alone.

Can I remove an additional suffix when the base code matches?

Keep the full offered code until its role is established. Use separate fields for an external manufacturer part number and an internal reference, and retain the evidence connecting them.

Does a matching package code establish a replacement?

No. A replacement review also needs to address logic function, channel count, pin assignment, electrical conditions, timing, and applicable qualification requirements. Package matching is only one part of that review.
